Culturally Responsive Training for Birthworkers,

Clinicians, Medical Providers, & Social Service Providers

At the Black Girls Mental Health Collective (BGMHC), we provide comprehensive, culturally affirming perinatal mental health training tailored to different audiences. Our training is specifically designed to equip professionals with trauma-informed approaches that support Black women and birthing individuals during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Our Four Training Tracks

We offer four distinct training programs, each tailored to a specific audience:

1. Perinatal Mental Health Training for Birth Workers

For Doulas, Lactation Consultants, Midwives, and Other Birth Support Professionals

What You’ll Learn:
✔ Understanding Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) in Black birthing individuals
✔ Trauma-informed care & navigating medical racism
✔ Screening and referral strategies for mental health support
✔ The intersection of mental health, lactation, and birth support
✔ Self-care & mental wellness for birth workers

2. Perinatal Mental Health Training for Clinicians

For LCSWs, LMFTs, Psychologists, and Mental Health Professionals

What You’ll Learn:
Evidence-based interventions for Black perinatal clients (CBT, EMDR, Interpersonal Therapy)
Assessing & treating perinatal depression, anxiety, and trauma
✔ The impact of systemic racism on Black maternal mental health
Best practices for culturally responsive therapy in the perinatal period
✔ Ethical considerations & clinical case consultations


3. Perinatal Mental Health Training for Medical Professionals

For OB/GYNs, Pediatricians, Nurses, Midwives, and Primary Care Providers

Identifying & addressing mental health concerns in perinatal patients
Reducing medical bias & improving patient-provider trust
Integrating perinatal mental health screening into medical settings

4. Perinatal Mental Health Training for Home Visitors & Social Service Providers
